Hidden Heroes Scholarship Application Process

 

Heroes are traditionally seen and heard. Sadly, some heroism is obscured by prejudice or the material barriers of poverty and injustice. At Henley, we build, and we’ve been building an idea we like to call “Hidden Heroes.”

The Henley Hidden Heroes scholarships are designed for South Africans who are creating positive impact, without the advantage of profile. We are calling on you to shine a light on areas of the community that history has tried to hide, to show us the invisible courage happening there. We would like to show our gratitude by sharing what we have – education and access to a global community.

The scholarships are awarded monthly and throughout the year to individuals we have never heard of. The qualifications vary, depending on the candidate’s current level. Whether it is through a soup kitchen or corporation, the size of the nominee’s business is not important, its positive impact on others is.

As this opportunity spans 12 months (June 2020 to May 2021), you may submit a nomination for a Hidden Hero or your own submission at any time during this period.

Application Process and Entry Criteria 

Eligibility to apply for these scholarships is dependent upon Henley’s standard Terms and Conditions, outlined on our website for each programme at the respective links above. Please access these under How to Apply and read them carefully.

The Henley Hidden Heroes scholarships are for tuition only. All other expenses will be for the scholarship recipient. The scholarship recipients must attend all sessions/lectures/immersions. Applicants/nominees must be South African citizens.

 

Please ensure the nominee is a suitable candidate and is eligible for the following:

  • Must have a matric certificate
  • Minimum of 3 years’ work experience (preferably managing a portfolio or business unit)

If you are nominating someone else, please write a letter of motivation in the form of a 400 word motivation highlighting the nominees’ significant contribution to society, business or their community.

 

If you are nominating yourself, please include a letter of motivation in the form of a 1000-word reflective essay that articulates the following:

  • What gives you purpose and fulfillment in the world?
  • If you are a successful recipient of a Hidden Heroes scholarship, how will you pay this forward in support of others?
